Always.
Hold on to Jesus
Erin O'Donnell/ Janna Long
You're a little piece of heaven
You're a golden ray of light
And I wish I could protect you
From the worries of this life
But if there's one thing I could tell you
It's no matter what you do
Hold to Jesus, He's holding onto you
The world will try to tell you
That might is more than right
And beauty's on the outside
And being good's a losing fight
But remember what I've told you
'Cause the world will make you choose
Hold to Jesus, He's holding on to you
Hold on to Jesus, and cling to His love
Rest deep in His mercy, whenever things get rough
And don't lose sight of His goodness
And don't ever doubt this truth
That when you hold to Jesus
He's holdin onto you, Yeah
Hear me dear Jesus
Rock this little one to sleep
Keep her close when she's scared
And give her grace when she is weak
I know she'll stumble, but I know she'll make it through
If you hold on to her, just like you said you'd do
Hold her Jesus so she'll hold on to you
These lyrics touch my heart so much. If I am able to communicate anything to my sweet, precious baby girl {she will always be my baby girl, even when she's a grown woman} it would be the message of this song.
I've blogged about struggling with fear before. I am a worrier by nature, God is redeeming that everyday more and more. But more than just fear in general I really struggle with fear in regards to my kids. It can be a paralyzing reality to think that I won't be able to protect my baby girl from all pain, evil and wicked thing in this big world.
But...
There is one, and only one who can protect her and when bad things happen {and we all know that they will...} He will always be there for her to comfort her and to redeem all that is forsaken in this fallen world. Praise Jesus, that He is there for my baby, always. And that He is capable of keeping her from so much more than I ever will be able to keep her from.
So not only does this song bring comfort to me in my fears by reminding me that Jesus is holding my baby, even when I can't. It also reminds me that my deepest desire and job as her parent is to love her and point her to the only one who will always be there. And to cling to Him, no matter what.
I think I'll start practicing teaching her this by first doing so myself.

This is what it's all about.
Little Lady is going on night number two of a 102 fever. Last night she slept in our bed with us from about 10:30 on. Let's just say she's about the only one who got any sleep...
Well Little Dude slept, but nothing really keeps him from sleep except a hungry belly or the occasional gas bubble refusing to release from within. Thankfully there weren't many of those last night.
And with the fever still hanging around and Tylenol and ibprophin barely taking the edge off, it looks like we'll be having a repeat of last night.
I'm starting to realize this is what motherhood is all about.
Maybe not all about. Of course there are a lot of wonderful easy moments were everything just seems to go right. But we all know that just isn't reality all the time. We wouldn't enjoy those moments if they were.
But then there are the times when one child is sick and needs your full attention. And the other is a newborn and needs your full attention. It's hard, and one of them has to cry for a few minutes even though you just wish God had given you a set of arms for each one.
But these are my babies and I honestly wouldn't trade a minute with them for the world.

10 Months
Sweet baby girl, today you are 10 months.
It's a wonder to me how you could be ten months old already considering it had to have been just a week ago that you spent your days sleeping, eating & pooping.
But that is far from your days now, isn't it...
You are silly and love to play and 'wrestle' with your daddy. I love your adorable laugh and you get a kick out of the silliest things. You think it's so funny to put your finger in our mouth or when we hold you upside down. And you love to make faces at yourself in the mirror, it's so cute.
You still eat jarred baby food, fruit only, mixed with cereal for breakfast. All other foods are table foods. There isn't a table food you've turned down yet! When ever mommy or daddy has food you come right over and hold your mouth open until we give you a bite. :) And you've started gaining an interest drinking from a cup.
More and more you are getting the hang of standing and keeping your balance. Most of the day you are up and then down again, and up again. Of course if there is somewhere you want to go you just get down and crawl, since your so fast and efficient now. :)
You have just learned to wave bye-bye! It's so cute because you do your wave and keep doing it until I say "bye bye" and then you clap for yourself. I love it.
You are such a little smarty pants. Not surprising considering who your daddy is... he's quite the smarty pants too. And he would say that I am pretty smart, cause I married him. I'd have to agree there!
You are still as observant and exploring as you always have been. You study everything you can get your hands on and try to figure it out. You love to pull things out of bags or drawers. You'll empty a clothes basket and when it's contents have all been removed then you lose interest! So silly :)
All of these things describe the little person you are and I can't begin to tell you how much I adore spending my days with you and how much I am enjoying calling you mine. I love you sweet Evalyn. I love you more than you could ever know.
Love,
Mommy

Favorite things
Dear Cupcake,
You are the sweetest thing ever. I have been truly enjoying the time I've gotten to spend with you in these last six and half months. The last month has been especially exciting, watching you change and grow at such a rapid pace! Your little personality is coming to life.
Right now you are my life! We get to spend everyday together and I'm so grateful for this opportunity. The transition has been a little rougher than I thought it would be, going from a job outside of the home to being a full-time stay-at-home mommy. But the rewards now and they ones yet to come will make up for that and more!
I want to tell you a few of my favorite things about our time right now.
Your laugh. It's infectious and I can't help to smile when ever I hear it. It comes pretty easy these days, you are a happy baby! I love when I'm putting you down for a nap and I'm holding you in my arms to bounce you to sleep, when I lean down to kiss your sweet, soft cheek, you giggle and it makes me giggle. We go back and forth a couple times and just want to eat you up cause you are such a sweetie.
Your curiosity. You want to see, hear and do everything! You reach your hands out to feel and/or grab everything you see. You watch your hand as you open and close a fist and just study your feet as you rotate your ankle in circles. Today when we ran to the craft store for somethings, I let you sit in the cart for the first time {without your car seat} and you took everything in with a huge smile on your face. It really was a whole new world to you!
Your happy personality. Just yesterday at the store the sales clerk was talking to you and you gave her the biggest smile and chuckle! She asked me, "Is she always this happy?" and I told her yes! you sure are! I love to set you down in front of our closet door mirror and watch you get a kick out of your 'friend' on the other side! It's pure fun and entertainment for you hours.
These are just a few of my favorite things about you and our sweet time together.

I love you cupcake!

If you give a mouse a cookie...
... {Same idea, but mommy version according to daddy!}
If you buy a woman a dress, she'll want a pair of shoes.
If you buy the woman that pair of shoes, she'll want a pedicure.
Then she'll want a necklace to go with her dress, and of course her hair will need to be done too.
So if you think you are just buying a dress, think again, cause your never buying just a dress.
But I bet she'll be the prettiest woman you ever did see. :)
Thank you, honey, for letting me get
all dressed up for you!
Love you.

Song for a Fifth Child*
Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.
The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.
*I do realize that I do not have 5 children. Not even close really. I only have one, and she isn't even a year old.
But I love the words to this poem/song. And even as a first time mama I can relate to this so much already. There are days that I am so stressed because I haven't done a lick of cleaning and it's been 3 days. But it's in those times that I like to be reminded of the fact that there is a lot that I have been doing:
Feeding my baby~singing to my baby~bouncing my baby to sleep~playing with my baby after changing her diaper~playing with my baby while I'm changing her diaper~making baby food~teaching my baby to roll over~ teaching my baby to sit up~playing with my baby while she has 'tummy time'~singing to my baby~making my baby smile/laugh~going on outings with my baby~taking pictures of my baby~writing in a journal to my baby~making silly faces for my baby~comforting my crying baby~cuddling my sweet baby...
